It is a misconception of the majority of fishermen that any kind of fishing gear will haul in the carp they wish to catch. However, though thought to be the rubbish of the lake, the carp are devious creatures and not easy to bait at all.

In case you are planning on angling for carp, it is wise to spend that little extra amount and get the correct gear for fishing for carp. Though a few people feel that the gear will not make much of a difference, in reality it will and the amount that you will be able to catch with the right equipment is truly much larger than without.

The right gear for carp fishing. Different fishing rods are required for various sizes of carp fish. The carp weigh around 15 pounds in the smaller lakes and up to 30 pounds in the larger lakes. So for you to be able to grapple with a larger fish you would need a stronger and bigger rod.

The 15 pound fish will need a one and a half pound to two pound test curve rod and a three pound test curve would be required to handle anything above 15 pounds. The size of the rod also depends on the distance of fishing, as the rod will have to handle both the weight of the carp and the fishing distance.

The reel would also have to be considered according to the kind of rod you are using and also depends on the type of rod and distance that you will be casting. The reel must be well-matched to the rod also. It is better to buy both things together so that you do not mix up the issues.

All proficient fishermen advise a bait runner kind of reel. This will prevent you from getting dragged into the lake.

The fishing line is another part that has to be considered carefully. The reel and the rod would give you a hint as to the size of the fishing line you have to get. Once again the line should be able to bring in the carp that you are baiting and this depends on the weight of the fish. A rough guess is the most suitable way to determine this is by the size of your rod.

The hooks are also available in various shapes, sizes, colors etc. Most anglers will put together an assortment of carp fishing gear that has a range of weights, hooks, and tools. Another must do that is advised by expert an angler is that you purchase a carp hook. You may have to spend a little more, but will benefit in the long run. Here you will have to take care that you buy the kind of hook that is permitted by the fishery laws of that county. Barbed hooks are banned in some places and if you do not observe these regulations in the law you could land up in trouble.

Since developing an interest in carp fishing there are some facts that might save some money in the future. Carp fishing is already popular in Europe, but not so in the United States. Therefore buying quality gear in the states might be more challenging than in the UK. There are many companies producing fishing equipment specifically designed for carp fishing these days. So with the the aid of the internet and due diligence in comparing gear one should be able to match their finances to the quality of fishing equipment it takes to get many years of enjoyment as a carp fisher.

Fishing for any species means having to withstand all the elements mother nature has. That means having an assortment of good quality carp fishing equipment along with clothing to match the different weather conditions. Also things like water proof bags are not a bad idea either. While the tackle box may be keeping the tackle dry, it might be wise to keep the lunch, snack items and extra clothing dry.

Looking at carp fishing in general can be quite confusing. But by breaking it down into categories things are not so complicated because each category is just a small amount of information. Not everything will be covered here. We can begin with these categories.

Carp Fishing rods

The fishing rod is probably a good starting point. What kind of rod depends largely on the fish being sought after. Those large trophy size carp in Europe will require a much more stout rod than if just fishing for 5-10 pound grass carp. One also needs to consider whether the carp fishing will be done in traditional way or with a pod. Some carp anglers use an adjustable rack known as a pod which can hold three rods to be fished at the same time. The more serious anglers will even have thousands of dollars invested into their gear.

It is not necessary to invest that much money to be able to start enjoying carp fishing. Try to find a medium action six foot or longer rod to start with. This will land the carp while still being able to enjoy the feel of the fight from catching smaller fish. The main thing to keep in mind is to purchase a rod that will withstand repeated stress. Nothings worse than having a broken fishing rod after only a couple months of use.

Fishing Line

This is the direct contact between the angler and the carp. It is also more than likely the weakest point. It has been said that a good rule of thumb is to multiply the test curve of the rod by five. So if a rod had a test curve of two the best fit would be ten pound test. This is only a guideline. Making sure to have strong enough line to prevent break-offs will help keep the carp from undo harm and the loss of fishing gear.

Carp Fishing Reels

The rod is going to need a reel. It would be easy to spend a lot of money for a good reel and then have no money for any other fishing equipment. Thankfully part of the enjoyment of fishing is shopping for carp fishing gear. The reel can always be upgraded later. It really is best to purchase the reel at the same time as purchasing the rod. Here is why. The reel can be mounted to the rod and the angler will know if the combination is comfortable or not. Other things to factor in are the diameter of the fishing line that will be spooled and the amount of line the reel will hold. Make sure there is enough line for long casts or the long runs the big carp will take before they are landed.

Fishing Chair

While sitting on the shore or bank may be suitable to some, others might prefer a chair to lounge in while waiting for a strike. Folding lawn chairs are good options. Some even have carrying bags with shoulder straps so making it quite simple to transport them to the fishing hole.

Tremendous pleasure and satisfaction can be had with fishing. Fishing for carp is growing in popularity because they are a large species which have the ability to always put up a terrific fight. These species are found in ponds, lakes and even sloughs all around the globe. These carp fishing tips should help to improve the chances of catching a whopper the next time you head out fishing.

Local Knowledge:

Some anglers know the basic concepts of fishing, but carp fishing techniques might be slightly different in order to land the catch. Every species possess different habits and behavior which require the angler to use different techniques. It`s important to learn the specific feeding times and habits at the places which are going to be fished. The internet is a good place to look for information about local carp fishing spots.

Be Cautious

Carp are not stupid and their senses are very sharp. Spooking and watching them disappear does not take much. Because of this the angler should remain as quiet and motionless as possible. Noise and communication should be kept to a minimum.Creating a disturbance in the water should not be done unless it is unavoidable. Becoming an accomplished angler requires excellent observation skills.

	Lures:

Carp are attracted to certain smells. A very good example of this is creamed corn. This is an excellent lure which can be used to attract more fish to the area where you are fishing. Poke some holes in the can of creamed corn and toss it into the water before you start fishing. Pretty soon the surface of the water will be active with feeding carp and other species of fish.

Tackle:

It does not take an expert to figure out the carp are a demanding species to catch. During all the thrashing while trying to escape the hook set they can also be easily damaged. Try to avoid the use of cheap tackle. This is just not adequate for carp fishing. Mid priced gear is good enough and should last for several years.

Bait:

The selection of bait will have a direct impact on the amount of time needed in order to catch a large carp. Advise from other anglers would be beneficial in the selection of which bait would be best for local conditions.

Anyone with the desire can become an accomplished carp fisher. Patience and understanding is really all that is required.

Carp Fishing Bait Basics

There are two main kinds of carp fishing bait for use. They are particle baits and meal baits. Particle baits can range from corn, cubed cheese, worms hot dogs, peanuts as well as many others. The use of nuts requires them to be soaked water for quite a few hours and then boiled till they become a medium consistency. They will then need to be dried before use. Nuts are not a natural bait for the carp, but the nuts seem to be a great attraction for them once they start feeding. In some waters the nuts out perform meals and boilies by a rate of 5 to 1.

One word of caution when using peanuts as bait. Try not to use them in large quantities. Specific attention should be given trying to avoid dropping to many peanuts into the pond. Peanuts contain a high level of vitamin C which is not good for carp. In fact some areas actually ban the use of peanuts in their ponds for use as carp fishing bait. Tiger nuts would be a safer alternative to use instead of peanuts. Tiger nuts are harder so they have to be processed longer.

Bread is also a bait. To use bread as bait you will need to knead it in water until it turns into a thick paste. Nut flavorings can be added to the paste making it more attractive to the carp.

Boilies and meal baits are cooked by boiling dough into a paste, similar to making pasta.

Simple Carp Baits

Ingredients for making boilies can include:

	1. The dough base – soya flour or semolina paste. Bread flour and soya are looser and softer in consistency than the flour or semolina that is used for making pasta.

2. The fish flavor – The flavor of the boily may be enhanced by adding fish meal. A mixture of sardines and anchovies is very effective also.

3. Eggs – Eggs serve as a hardener to the consistency of the paste. The amount of eggs used will depend on the desired stickiness of the bait.

4. Bulk ingredients – These will be the ingredients that make the bait harder and more stable in moving waters. This will also aid in keeping smaller fish from pecking at the bait. One good bulk ingredient is corn meal. Optional flavors and spices – Things that can also be added are cinnamon or paprika, even by adding some pepper will make the bait more appealing to the carp.

These baits are neither exotic or expensive. The ingredients available in your kitchen will make a simple yet effective bait. If not, then grab some loose change and buy them at the pet shop. This is one among several other factors why carp fishing is such a popular sport in UK. Recently carp fishing seems to catching on in the United States also.

Basic Carp Fishing Facts

Now that you have developed an interest in carp fishing there are some facts the angler should be aware of in order to save money in the future. Carp fishing has been popular in Europe for quite some time now but not so popular in the United States. This might make it a little more difficult to set up a quality carp fishing outfit, however not impossible. There are actually companies that manufacture fishing gear specifically designed for carp fishing. With the use of the internet and some shopping around at local tackle shops one should be able to create a quality set of gear.

No need to go into debt but don`t buy the cheapest fishing gear available. These fish are tough. They will put up a good fight when hooked. This is going to put a lot of stress on both you and the fishing gear. The cheaper versions will not last as long. They will be harder to use making this sport much less enjoyable. The top of the line products are more than likely going to way to expensive. Mid priced carp fishing gear should be affordable and high quality.

Looking at carp fishing in general can be quite confusing. But by breaking it down into categories things are not so complicated because each category is just a small amount of information. Here are a few categories to get started with for now.

Carp fisherman who fish all-night sessions by the bank will without doubt appreciate a good quality angling bivvy tent so that you keep out all of the rain and the wind which the British and Europe regularly dishes out whilst we are angling. If the angler becomes chilly and drenched and uncomfortable whilst fishing almost certainly pack up and head for back home.

Bivvies have greatly improved in design and build level in modern times together with numerous unique improvements in frame style and design, material quality and weight concerns so now the angler does not require to spend a a lot of money on a shelter or sleep a night beneath a thin umbrella when fishing as many of our predecessors.

For fishermen who nevertheless prefer an umbrella variety bivvy which could possibly quite practical for squeezing in to small pitches the fresh designs have now become a larger, more oval design and can easily include storm sides which stop some blowing wind and rainfall heading in from the sides. The post straight down the centre may now be removed leaving lots more area beneath the umbrella for a bedchair, rucksack and also any other tackle which is necessary for your session. Several bivvy companies and suppliers now additionally sell an overwrap for their brollies so you can transform a brolly to a bivvy fairly speedily that features a fold up entrance and a front panel to keep out the poor weather.

If you fish relatively lengthy sessions and also like a bit more space or possibly you like to bring a guest along right now there are now several two man sized bivvies on the market developed and produced by all the well recognized companies such as Fox, Trakker, JRC, Nash, Daiwa, Chub and Prologic. The bigger bivvies are able of storing two bedchairs plus all the needed kit such as cool bags, cooking equipment, bait bags etc should you want to stay on the bank for a lengthier session. Most bivvies that are not specially developed for angling possess a fibreglass pole system that you need to thread throughout the fly sheet which really can be a bit of aggro on your own or if you are attempting to assemble in high wind, the majority of anglers find this system cumbersome as well as time consuming if they are only angling swift single overnight sessions so bivvy designers came up with a much more rigid, straightforward to assemble frame system produced from aluminium and now even carbon, the style that plenty of people now favor is primarily based on a pram hood style. Most fishermen now are likely to give preference to this design of bivvy simply because they are really strong and speedy to put up and additionally store away even in substantial winds.

The fabrics used in most modern day bivvies has been considerably improved and the fabrics are much tougher and much more water proof than in the past and are generally much less likely to split when erecting or dismantling, we suggest that you coat your bivvy with Fabsil fabric sealant every year to keep it in tip-top condition.

Many bivvy firms now manufacture camouflaged materials for fisherman that wish to hide away.New improvements in bivvy design consist of mozzi sections or covers, fold back sections and zip off or roll up fronts so the fisherman can have the front open to keep an eye on the lake in good weather conditions. When choosing a new bivvy take into account the previously mentioned attributes, and decide on one of the trustworthy brands and best to be prepared to invest a bit of your money for a good quality bivvy which will last you numerous years and keep you cozy and dry whilst angling on the bank.
The weekend is either here or quickly approaching as this article is being read. The problem is you can`t go carp fishing because of the honey-do list. That is a list of chores around the house the male must complete in order to keep his relationship from entering an argument.

I know the urge to go fishing is very strong and there are two choices here. First one do the honey-do list and all is good, except a day of fishing is lost. Second, go ahead and go fishing anyway. We`ve all been there. The day really isn`t so fun because of that constant thought of the angry mate awaiting our arrival. Then upon arriving home the punishment begins.

Women Like to Fish

This might sound silly to some but there is a third option here. That`s right a third option that will keep a smile on every ones face. Take her fishing. In the beginning this might be a little awkward, even uncomfortable. For some reason it is just assumed women don`t like to fish. This, for the most part, simply is not true. Yes there are some women who just don`t enjoy this great sport we have come to love. Should these tips be applied there could possibly be many carp fishing trips to be enjoyed instead of all the ones that were missed.

Chances are if the woman isn`t interested in fishing it is because she has never fished or has not fished for quite some time. Set her up with her very own rod, reel, and fishing gear. What does this do? Well first of all she is proud of her brand new fishing equipment, which with a little advice from you, she picked out herself.

Keep Her Interested

On the first few fishing trips it is important to keep letting her know that every carp fishing adventure will produce a catch, But take her to the honey holes. The secret fishing holes which are considered sacred. The reason for this is she needs to catch fish in order to develop an interest. Also tie her rigs, do the baiting, etc. Spend whatever time is needed to teach her the basic techniques like casting or whatever aspect she wishes to learn. Teach her! It will pay off in huge dividends in the future. It is important to spend every minute dedicated to her getting satisfaction and enjoyment out these adventures.

Carp Fishing Women the Payoff

At first you may not get much fishing time in-but with every fishing trip knowledge will have expanded. After a while she will probably start taking pride in her small steps of becoming a carp fisherwoman as she starts to bait her own set-up that she rigged all by herself. It takes different amounts of time with different women, but if a true effort is put into her at first and she does take an interest in carp fishing or any type of fishing for that matter the teacher will be rewarded to a great extent. Imagine having her coming to you saying "honey can we go fishing this weekend". OK. Is the point taken. Take her fishing. The reward is more time spent fishing, less time spent arguing, and a much more rewarding relationship.
